NEW I-9 FORM:
The federal government created a new I-9 form which employers
are required to use for all new employees hired after
December 26, 2007. Employers need not have current employees
complete the new form unless re-verification is required.
Employees are no longer required to provide a Social
Security Number unless they are employed by an employer
who participates in E-Verify.
The new form adds to List A the most recent version of
the Employment Authorization Document (Form I-766). Also,
the new form eliminates five documents that employees
can present to establish identity and employment eligibility
under List A. Employers may no longer accept the following
five documents:
- Certificate of U.S. Citizenship (Form N-560
or N-561)
- Certificate
of Naturalization (Form N-550 or N-570)
- Alien Registration
Receipt Card (I-151)
- Unexpired Reentry Permit (Form I-327)
- Unexpired Refugee
Travel Document (Form I-571)
English and Spanish versions of the new I-9 form can
be viewed and printed at http://www.uscis.gov/i-9
NEW MINIMUM WAGE:
Effective January 1, 2008, the new minimum wage in California
is $8.00 per hour.
